Benefits of massage therapy

Massage therapy has been used for centuries to soothe and rejuvenate our minds and muscles. Massage provides healing by reducing stress, improving the flow of blood and lymph, reducing muscular tension or flaccidity, stimulating or sedating the nervous system and enhancing tissue healing.


Muscle tension very often occurs because we contract and hold muscles in one position; for example when driving, carrying a bag, sitting in a desk chair or using a book or mobile phone. When muscles remain tense for long periods in this way they can stay locked even after we start moving again. We might not be aware of it immediately, but over time our range of movement can become restricted and even painful.


Massage techniques warm and stretch the muscles to release and soften them.
