Stress and the nervous system

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

We've all been stressed at one time or another, but living with stress on a day to day basis isn't something which we ought to brush aside. The fast pace of 21st century life in Britain can be overwhelming for our senses. We're taking in huge amounts of sensory information and many of us aren't taking enough time to wind down and reset.

Stress can suppress our immune system, put strain on our heart, make us aggressive and create digestive issues and sleeping problems.

Gentle massage sends the body a message to say it's safe to relax. It switches us from the sympathetic ('fight and flight' mode) to the parasympathetic ('rest and digest') mode. This allows our breathing and heart rate to slow and our digestion to work normally again. We sleep better and feel calmer

Treat yourself or a loved one to a de-stress massage.
